The manufacturing process of ceramic multilayer boards includes a one-time sintering multilayer method and a thick film multilayer method
1. One-time sintering multi-layer method
The ceramic blank is stamped and formed, the conductive layer is printed, the lamination or the printed insulating layer is formed, the shape is punched, the sintering is performed, and the precious metal is plated.
2. thick film multilayer method
The ceramic blank is stamped and formed, sintered, printed conductive layer, sintered, printed insulating layer, printed conductive layer, and sintered.
Ceramic printed circuit boards are mostly used as thick film and thin film circuits and hybrid circuit boards, which are used as circuit boards for power supplies and heating elements in automotive engine control circuits, video recorders, VCDs and other devices. Most of these printed boards contain components such as resistance and capacitance, so they can also be used as multi-chip circuit packages and electrical tuner boards.
Why we need circuit ceramic PCB:
There are two main reasons why ceramic PCBs for high power, high current and high operating temperature devices are needed compared to FR-4.
(1) Heat dissipation:
As mentioned above, FR-4 is not a good thermal conductor, but a good electrical insulator, so it cannot effectively dissipate or conduct heat on its own unless it is supported by active cooling elements such as fans and heat sinks. Operating temperature up to 350 O C.
(2) Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE)
The second reason is the CTE mismatch between the FR-4 substrate and its conductor metal (i.e. copper). This will cause uneven heat distribution during thermal cycling and can damage weak parts of the PCB.
